Defensive Driving Tips — Part II

With the first day of summer just a few weeks away, you’re probably getting more and more excited for a summertime road trip in your RV. We provided you with a few defensive driving tips in our last entry, so be sure to catch up on that information if you haven’t yet seen it. In today’s post, we’re going to continue to explain a few different ways that you can become a more defensive and safer driver.

MobileTech RV Repair proudly provides a number of RV maintenance services in Montgomery County and the surrounding areas. Get in touch with us to schedule an RV inspection, and read on to learn how you can stay safe while you’re on the road this summer!

EVEN MORE DEFENSIVE DRIVING TIPS

Look Ahead

In our previous post, we mentioned that you should get into the habit of periodically checking your mirrors and blind spots. In addition to this, you should also get into the habit of looking further ahead at the road than you normally do. Studies show that most of us tend to look only at the vehicle in front of us, or simply at the lines in the road, but this can leave you vulnerable to unexpected surprises. Whether you’re in heavy highway traffic or coasting down a stretch of open road, glancing further ahead allows you to plan ahead for obstacles and hazards.

Make a Back-Up Plan

You can never anticipate what will happen on the road. From unexpected storms to accidents and road work, any number of things can disrupt your trip and put you behind schedule. While making a backup plan isn’t defensive on its own, it can help you remain calm and collected if you do encounter unexpected conditions.

Don’t Get Fired Up

Don’t let other drivers get the best of you. While we’ve all felt the rage that can be induced by poor, careless, or blatantly aggressive driving, giving into that anger can cause a ripple effect amongst the drivers around, and you will only make the road more unsafe. Instead of reciprocating when another driver cuts you off or follows too closely behind you, be the bigger person and don’t let it affect your trip!

Invest in RV Maintenance

You’ve probably noticed that most of our tips involve anticipating and planning for the behavior of other drivers, but one of the most important tips we can give you is to invest in preventative RV maintenance. You don’t want to have to stop for unexpected repairs in the middle of your trip, and you certainly don’t want to take the risk of a crucial component breaking down in the middle of the highway.

The first day of summer is just a few weeks away — take this opportunity to schedule an RV maintenance appointment while it’s on your mind!
